Job Description

We are seeking Casual Counsellors for an in-residence treatment centre in Vancouver BC.

Nature and Scope of Work

The Counsellor provides one-to-one and group therapeutic counselling, assessment, education, and referral services for individuals experiencing challenges associated with substance use, and/or concurrent issues, and/or trauma. Clinical work includes, but is not limited to: substance use, trauma work, mental health, eating disorders, problem gambling, etc.

Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

 

Illustrative Examples of Work

Provides clinical services to individuals:

  • Assessing client needs and developing a client-focused interdisciplinary care plan.
  • Providing group & individual counselling.
  • Providing psycho educational group sessions.
  • Documenting cases and maintaining client records according to established guidelines.
  • Facilitating/referring clients internally and to appropriate community resources.
  • Case management and transition planning

 

Team practices and program planning and development:

  • Participating in interdisciplinary clinical meetings and all-staff meetings.
  • Participating in co-facilitation when required.
  • Use a trauma-informed and an interdisciplinary team approach to address challenging behaviors and situations.
  • Participating in planning, development and implementation of policies, programming, and services.
  • Liaising and networking with allied agencies.
  • Participating in community development/education projects with prospective partners

 

Expand services:

  • Acquiring additional knowledge and skills in the field of concurrent disorder to maintain
    evidence-informed practices.
  • Meeting shifting demands and regulatory legal and organizational standards.

 

Additional duties as required:

  • Providing guidance and orientation to new staff and students.
  • Design and conduct program evaluations.
  • Addressing client behavioural concerns when they arise.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to manage interpersonal relationships effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written in English.
  • Ability to organize work and time management skills.
  • Knowledge about principles of equity, inclusivity, diversity and accessibility.
  • Computer skills for report writing and data entry.
  • Ability to operate program related equipment.
  • Familiar with other related clinical issues, especially sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress and violence, loss, depression.

 

Education, Training & Experience

  • Completed Master’s degree in Counselling or Social Work (Counselling) from a reputable university.
  • Registered (e.g., RCC, CCC)
  • Training and knowledge of substance use, trauma, mental health and related issues of recovery.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a substance use, in-residence treatment centre or affiliated facilities.
